Abstract   In India, as much as 45 % of non agricultural female work force is home based, however, there is no single sector in which they are concentrated. Materials like reeds, grass, cane, and bamboo are used to make different types of mats throughout India. Pattamadai village in Tirunelveli Dsitrict of Tamilnadu is famous for its fine quality mats. Present Study is made on the basis of the main objectives (1) to analyze the Socio – Economic conditions of the Women Mat Weavers (2) To examine the Working Conditions of the Women Mat Weavers. The present study is an empirical research based on survey method. The required primary data for the study were collected through a well structured Interview Schedule. The collected data were coded, calculated and analyzed with the help of statistical tools like simple percentage analysis, one way ANOVA and tabulation.
